eavesdropping

eavesdropping

He walked past me on the sidewalk of La Brea and Melrose as I walked from my parked car towards Pinks. He smelled good, of cologne. And I don't like cologne. I looked up at him and he smiled. I wondered what his story was, where he was headed and who adored him.

He had big blue eyes and long dark hair. The cologne made me dizzy and maybe that's why I followed him into a bar that I had no intention of inhabiting tonight. I sat three stools down from him at the bar and listened as he ordered a martini as only a pro could.

A woman in a tight white belly shirt sauntered through the door moments later. She walked up to him and kissed him squarely on the jaw. He smiled but wasn't terribly receptive.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Just decided to have a drink and this was the closest place" she said.

He waved his arm and she retreated to a bar stool a few further away from my own. I was still kind of tipsy from his cologne, so I was glad she didn't block my view of the action hero. The owner of the bar came in and hugged him. I knew lots of people loved this guy, I'm good that way. The bar owner brought out a plate of food and he looked over at me for the first time.

I don't know if he recognized me from the street but he moved over to sit next to me. The action hero offered me some calamari and I said no.

"Why is someone as lovely as you alone here tonight?" he questioned.

I stared at his big blue eyes and luscious hair.

"I could ask the same of you," I said to avoid answering his query.

I moved away after that and sat at a little table behind him. I wasn't there drinking water so i could talk to him, I wanted to eavesdrop. He seemed a bit shocked as someone of his looks might be but the show continued.

Belly shirt
So who was THAT ugly chick?

Him
I don't know her, she was sitting there alone with a glass of water

Belly shirt:
You fucking liar

Him:
I'm serious. I date better looking women than that, right?

Belly shirt:
Well you dated me.

Him:
So then you know I don't go slumming with the locals

Belly shirt:
You are still a {weenis}sucker

Him:
I know, but you love me baby.

I'm not sure what it is about sitting a few feet behind someone that makes you invisible but no ego's were bruised in the writing of this post. Heh. Sometimes it's better to be an observer in life rather than a participant. And I still hate cologne.
