Pajama Envy

Okay, so the Pajama crew has a spare pair after Tim Blair wisely stepped away from the trainwreck. I'm tipping my virtual fedora at Mister Blair for handling it with much diplomacy.

On a happy note, I got Althoused today! Steve H and I were chatting earlier and he pointed out that she's become the Insta-lanche provider of choice for those of us too cool to join the Pajama Club.

I have a few observations about the Pajama Media wreck. And no, I'm not handing out free advice. My offer to set them straight still stands with a pricetag of 1 million dollars ;)

Here's what I noticed...I had a theory this weekend. And so far my experiments have been suggestive but not conclusive. Each time an anti-Pajama post landed on technorati results for "Pajamas Media" -- a pro PJ blogger or two would bury it. And because results show up both for the blogger's home page AND some sort of PJM feed it doesn't take much to keep the negative posts from the top of the heap. Embarrassed much?

You see where I'm going with this...your observations are welcome in the comments.

Also, from someone on the inside I've heard that Raj and crew don't see any problems with their "business model" and I use that phrase loosely.

That may be their biggest problem of all, if it's true. Which I doubt. Afterall, they did have a logjam on THANKSGIVING day, of all times trying to figure out what the heck they were doing.

I can tell them what they are doing in two words -- screwing up.

Okay, I got that out of my system. For now. Going to work on a few more posts -- hopefully not Open Sores Media related.

UPDATE:
Simply hilarious...

That's so nice to hear! I hoped something would eventually get me up off my ass and blogging again -- over on Wonderland someone said (I'm paraphrasing)-- Idiots have a way of bringing folks together!

As the Pajama Father would say, "Indeed"

Heh.

A million dollars to set them on the right path seems a little low. Surely you're worth at least a 50/50 split.

"One. Million. Dollars! Bwahahahaha!"

Gotta get a minimoxie, Moxie

I think the current vernacular is oozing sores media. Of course, I stole that (not that I'd use it for anything ..... well commenting anyway).

Faithful reader from Ky, I think it will solve its own problem. I went there, I tried to read it, my brain hurt, I went away. Glad it has you writing again though. Too bad Steve H. cant sick some Nigerians on them. I bet they would be able help them burn thru 7mm real quick like. LOL.

First time visitor coming from LA Observed. I'm more confused by PJM than upset and don't really know that it will ever serve any purpose for me.

BUT, what is with this obsession? I scroll down to check out your site and it is all Pajamas, all the time. Is this the site's theme?

Posted by: bb at November 28, 2005 11:21 PM

bb, not normally no.

But this blog is five years old and I've gone through high points and low points. Low points meaning not posting at all for weeks at a time. High points were things like writing for papers and magazines, being on Dennis Miller's Varsity Panel and most recently as a guest on Tony Snow's Fox radio show.

This has got me writing again. And don't think I'm not aware some readers may be bored by my pointing out every wrinkle in someone else's pajamas. I hope to move onto something else soon...in the meanwhile

bare with me. Pun intended.

baby say the word and i'll althouse you :)

Posted by: tony at November 29, 2005 1:38 AM

Tony, if you would althouse me good and hard regularly, I would never have needed to cheat with Ann! And Steve. And Rodger. And Laurence. blah blah blah.

I think you are the Gretchen to my Bonaduce.

Did u see THIS?

Posted by: beautifulatrocities at November 29, 2005 8:59 AM

Heh - nice to see the Pajama Media Scam is still flailing about. Oddly enough, I had one of my best days in months when I dissed the thing, but also brought out many defensive bloggers. For people to be so touchy it's pretty clear that they have doubts too, but they're not giving them voice. What does that say for PMS's "revolution?"

The PJM thing... it's kinda weird.

I'm an early blogads user (the old "sample of a good ad" pointed to my smut site--thanks Henry!), but mostly haven't used the service for a year, (reasons relating to the relatively high cost of ads after the election, and the fact that I've been on the road to over a dozen book/pulp/comic festivals this year... have to leave the basement sometime).

Anyway, the PJM folks, with their focus on "big name" advertisers; that's fine, but google's making a billion dollars off of people like me, and the guy who ran fuckedcompany.com scored venture cap to offer an alternative text ad site... catering to people like me.

Glad Moxie's running the ad (already successful), some other folks... aren't... yet. Not a big deal, finally have inventory under control this Christmas.

I kinda worry that blogads will became a left-wing only thing; I don't seem to do as well on left-wing locales... noir and hero pulp are more of a... male genre... and one of my recent smut books is a fairly successful (briefly made the top 20) erotic account of life in public radio... that probably wouldn't work on Kos.

Cheers.

You shoulda joined the Pajama Party darn it. You could have been our spy on the inside. The site, I mean, not the pajamas. Now the thought of what's inside Simon's pajamas will make me skip diner. Your fault.
