And the winner is...

The 2006 Toyota RAV4, 4 cylinder 4x2. In the end, my personal experience with Toyota vehicles won out, as I plan to drive this for the next 10 years.

The test drive was great, though it's an SUV it really drives and handles like a car. I guess I was expecting it to feel more like a truck. And for a 4 cylinder, the engine surprised me, it's very spunky! Though perhaps the greatest surprise was how good the visibility is, and while all cars have a "blind spot" this SUV's is actually smaller (is that the right word?) than my old Toyota Celica.

The dealer I purchased it from gave me a price that beat CarsDirect by 700 dollars, and the other dealers by 2-3k, so I think I got a very good price.

I opted for a fairly basic model without all the bells and whistles, as much as it would have been nice to have these items, my wallet didn't agree. But it does have a roof rack, styled 17" wheels and the side curtain airbags. Truly though, as long as it has an engine and wheels, I'm happy.

So, that's the end of my car shopping. It's so nice to have something that actually works. I keep going outside to admire it -- my neighbors think I'm crazy -- and maybe I am.

So now all you have to do is turbocharge the little nipper. ;)

To hell with the neighbors, mine thought the same thing about me after I'd purchased a new Z convertible.

Even went so as to call the cops.

Of course they quit complaining when it got to cold for me to sit in it naked going: Vroom, Vrooom, VAROOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!

Congrats! You can't go wrong with Toyota!

May I ask what type of a warranty they package with those? I hope it's at least 7/70.

I got the 6 years/100,000 miles warranty. I think that should be more than enough, given how the other three Toyotas in my family required NOTHING in the first 10 years.

Very cool Mox. I'd have gone for a Forester myself, but the RAV4 is a good 2nd choice :-) I hope the pretty little thing1 doesn't collect too many dings from that LA drivers.

Awesome Mox. That is one bad ride. Stainless welded tubular exhaust. Varible valve timing. Just a awesome machine. Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it. Wonderful choice.

Congrats. For what it's worth, you made a good decision.

I love Toyota but they have simply outpriced themselves for me.

So I went with a Hyundai and got all the bells and whistles for thousands of dollars less. Not to mention that fanfuckingtastic warranty.

Though on the minus side...I doubt it will last near as long as my previous Toyota which was 10 very reliable years.

Congrats...I know you'll enjoy it.

Enjoy your new ride.

Good pick. THe Kia isnt bad, but the Toyota does have a lot of years behind it. That engine us bulletproof, and the shape of the Rav4 is not hard on the eyes either. Pictures?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh... congrats! New cars are so fun! "Now run along and dent your fenders." (one of my favorite lines from one of my all-time favorite movies - Mildred Pierce. Yes, I'm a freak, but I'm quite comfortable with that.)

Yeah Moxie, pictures of you sitting in your new ride, with the Bill Clinton doll.

Hah, good luck. I've been asking for Mox + Porsche photos for three odd years. ;)

toyotas are good cars. i'm sure it'll do you well.

i was secretly hoping for the hyundai, just so i could find out if they're actually worth a crap or not.
