mailbag

I've been getting a lot of emails over the last few months. This amazes me, since about 5 people land here intentionally each day. The rest are from google. There are a lot of things going on in my life right now and I need amnesty.

Here are some generic responses, some or all of which can be applied to any emails you sent me that have not been answered:

- No.
- Yes.
- I do not have a myspace.com profile.
- I plan to continue doing MoxVox podcasts. Soon.
- You can't possibly be my son/daughter.
- I'd turn against Dubya if he were to impose islamic law on the US.
- Are you single, funny, intelligent, reasonably attractive, conservative, never been married and older than 35?
- I have a Bacon number of 2.
- Sorry, I'm washing my hair that night.
- I'm allergic to jerks, libshits and mold. Sorry for being redundant.
- Thank you.
- Sorry, I'm not currently hiring for the position of gay houseboy, nor for scantily clad pool boy.
- No, I do not recycle.
- Global warming is sexy.
- Maybe. But I'm not telling.
- I do not have a penis and therefore don't need any pills to enlarge it.

That should cover everything. So I hope you will understand that I am wiping the slate clean. And will try to do better about responding to emails from this point forward.

On the writing front, I've been feeling like a flickering pilot light. But unlike some with delusions of adequacy, I don't think it's okay to link and not think.

If you do only one smart thing today, subscribe to my RSS feed. The link is way down at the bottom of the page, on the right.

Also, if you are feeling chatty, leave a comment: In the event that I should change gears and not blog mostly politics, would you continue to read?

Hi Moxie.

Moxie, we like you. I don't think it matters what you write about.

Just keep writing, please.

When you write it is always entertaining. So yes I will continue to check your site and read if you stop talking about politics.

Yes, to all of the above, but I don't live anywhere near L.A. Double Do'h!

Posted by: sam at May 17, 2006 8:11 AM

Mox I read your blog all the time, and my favorite posts are always about things that don't have to do with politics.

While it was politics that brought me here, it isn't politics that brings me back.

In fact I could use less politics in my life.

I really enjoy the stories of you and your kitties

Posted by: Andre at May 17, 2006 8:34 AM

In answer to your question...yesssssss!!!

Posted by: Jamese at May 17, 2006 9:11 AM

Yes, keep on writing!

Posted by: bobgirrl at May 17, 2006 9:15 AM

"In the event that I should change gears and not blog mostly politics, would you continue to read?" Of course! I would read the chronicles of M's errant knee socks, I am smittin. Rats! I was married once when I was 20 (hell I almost remember what she looked like!), I guess I'm out. Even through the lens of objectivity, I am more than just reasonably attractive (don't hate me....), but I'm not very nice so there's a trade off. Compromise, perhaps the difficulty lies thataway...

Posted by: WTripp at May 17, 2006 9:45 AM

I won't mind if political topics become a seldom occurrence here.

I've become disillusioned with politics anyway.

Posted by: reagan80 at May 17, 2006 10:47 AM

I'll answer these questions, but not to woo you over or anything. (I'm just bored.)

Single?

-No, but even if I was, I still have not one, but TWO hands with all my digits still attached!

Funny?

-Yeah, everybody tells me that I'm a white Carlos Mencia.

Intelligent?

-Of course. All I need to know is where babies come from and that the toilet seat must remain down at all times. (In other words, I'm more housebroken than your spongemonkeys.)

Reasonably attractive?

-Since you like furry creatures so much, I'm sure you'd appreciate my super-sized hobbit physique.

Conservative?

-Hell NO! I'm a proud anti-Semitic Yiddish anarcho-statist.

Older than 35?

-No, I'll pull a "Kurt Cobain" if I ever get to that point. My motto is: "Life is just a molotov cocktail." Gotta throw those away before they burn my hands y'know?

Never been married?

-I've been married once, and I'm still married to my best friend. He was my high school's quarterback, and just thinking of his athleticism makes my rectum tingly. Are you jealous yet?

Not only that, but he's also been married to a foxy babe for the last few years. And, she's engaged to another hot lesbo. Legal loopholes.... I love 'em as much as I love manholes.

BTW, we all live happily together in our compound. Unfortunately, spongemonkeys aren't allowed here. Cheers.

Would I keep reading? I speck I would.

Posted by: Steve H. at May 17, 2006 12:45 PM

I check in from time to time mostly hoping to see another picture of you posted, but when that doesn't happen I often enjoy the read anyway. What would you like to comment on if not politics?

best regardless..

Posted by: Mark at May 17, 2006 12:56 PM

I'm not sure what I'd comment on...probably more social commentary, pop culture, life in Los Angeles type of stuff. That's not to say I'm never going to write about politics.

Posted by: Moxie at May 17, 2006 1:51 PM

keep writing moxie, otherwise I will die a painful horrible death of depravation of moxie and that would suck. me likey moxie

Posted by: wendy at May 17, 2006 1:55 PM

Please keep writing, Moxie! Otherwise I'll have nothing to do at work but work... *shudder*

Whether you post political or personal articles, your blog is always a fun read. Just keep 'em coming!

Posted by: Dar at May 17, 2006 3:38 PM

Just wanted to add--what I enjoy so much about blogs is that it's kind of a low-key voyeuristic journey into other people's lives. It's fun to read about others' experiences and perspectives; to learn about the poster's personality, values, and prejudices, while learning about my own as well; and to get an insight into how people different than myself live.

I can relate being a 30-ish conservative in a heavily blue region (myself being in Seattle), but not to being a woman or to living in sunny California or to the various (mis-)adventures you've been having with the new car, apartment living, and such.

So while it is nice to read some of your political postings so I can think, "Thank God I'm not the only one who feels that way!" it's also a lot of fun to read about your daily life and get an insight into another world.

Posted by: Dar at May 17, 2006 3:50 PM

I like your reality. I like the snakes in your sink, even if they're the steel coil kind.

The East Coast doesn't have a Moxie. Ergo, you're necessary to my weekly reading.

thanks.

Posted by: Joan of Argghh! at May 17, 2006 4:20 PM

Actually Joan, the east coast does have a 'Moxie'...it's a lake in Maine, drop dead gorgeous, at times lonely, other times stunningly alive, and always interesting. (and no, I am not giving directions, sorry)

Keep posting Mox. I loved the snake in the sink, I vicariously bought a new car, and...oh hell, I can't remember back that far. (I am over thirty-five, but Jamese might contest the un-married thingy)

In peace and care,
Roger

"In the event that I should change gears and not blog mostly politics, would you continue to read?"

If you switch to blogging about firearms or Japanese Porn, yes.

Posted by: Lemuel Calhoon at May 17, 2006 11:52 PM

Also, I am single, never married, over 35, above average IQ, funny - if you like the kind of jokes that, if told in a public school would require the summoning of a SWAT Team.

As to attractive... Well if those who believe that the universe is teaming with alien life are correct the odds are that some world somewhere would think that I was the ideal of male beauty.

Posted by: Lemuel Calhoon at May 17, 2006 11:58 PM

You may get your wish Lemuel...I'm looking into buying a snazzy new shotgun. Will need some input from my fine readers.

Posted by: Moxie at May 18, 2006 12:00 AM

Mox with a shotty? *drool* Pics, please?

For a pump, Mossberg. For a semi, Benelli (save your pennies, it's worth it).

Posted by: sam at May 18, 2006 7:24 AM

What do you plan to use the shotgun for? Home defense, or just plain fun at the range? For home defense, nothing beats the tried and true reliability of the old standby Remington 870. Mossberg 500 also works. For the range, I like Sam's choice of a Benelli (presumably he speaks of the M1 Super 90). Pricey, but good! Go with an 18" barrel for portability and convenience.

Posted by: Ralph at May 18, 2006 11:09 AM

Don't know if you know this but a few weeks ago portalofevil.com linked to your site as an example of right-wing craziness. They never do that for the loonly left. Kids.

Posted by: emerson at May 18, 2006 1:28 PM

Hey Mox. If you go to http://thebitchgirls.us/, she is a gun advocate and knows mucho about guns. Her blog is pretty good, too. And yes, by the way, Stonemason is very married....to me!! He's the one who turned me on to you.

Love ya!!

Posted by: Jamese at May 18, 2006 2:54 PM

Emerson, I never look at my stats or referrals. I guess they are satire impaired over there?

Jamese, that's so cool! As far as I know you and Stonemason are my only husband and wife readers :)

Posted by: Moxie at May 18, 2006 3:13 PM

What do you want the shotgun for?
