official trackback policy

Moxie's trackback policy? None. No more trackbacks.
angles.jpg
I'm old school. Having had a blog before 9-11-01, before there were more than 150 blogs, long before there was a mystical Instapundit, or fedora-clad Pajamas Media Fairy, let alone trackbacks...I understand the confusion for you newer folks.

But I'm tired. And cranky. And not delusional.

Sending trackbacks to a post that doesn't directly link to mine is communism. That's how I see it. And I've deleted thousands that fall in that category.

Pinko linking is not tolerated.

So, there. Posts from here on out have no trackbacks. Personally, I won't miss them. And you won't miss me and the 5 hits you get either.

Call me names. The Grinch who stole Trackbacks. That's fine. I'm an elder in this world. I could be Glenn Reynold's great-great-grand blogmother. Except I take better photos, even while drunk. With less expensive equipment and no attitude.

The blog is dead.

Read me if you dare.

It would make you a true rebel.

y'know, one of these days i'm gonna have to google "trackback" to find out just what the hell that is. . . it's one of those things i've always wondered yet never quite enough to get offa my ass to actually research it. . . kinda like how i've always wondered if there was a good reason to wash the washcloth you use while taking a shower 'cuz you'd think it'd rapidly reach an equilibrium state that was pretty clean. . .

oh, and please note that i'm not asking for an explanation either 'cuz if you do, all you'll really be doing is encouraging my slothful behavior. ..

What a great photo. Your camera must be INCREDIBLY expensive.

I killed trackbacks a long time ago. Seems that tb.cgi was nothing more that a method for trackback denial of service, grinding the server to dust.

ahhhh, but you DO have an attitude! and i, for one, am glad to see it resurfacing. in-your-face, this-is-the-way-it-is; quintessential Moxie!

and great-great-grandmother or not, you're still smokin'.

can't wait for your next salvo over gore v. hillary

as a latecomer to this partysphere with no desire to understand anything except mine and others piffle, i applaud this broad step!

you're not a lawyer, are you? (no offense, Steve!) it's like it's a lawyer party on the center/right side of the sphere.

all you need now is cats and dogs!!

trackbacks have always been more trouble than they are worth. spam karma takes care of them for in in wordpress. i use them once in a long while, maybe 4-5 times a year. and i considered seriously just nuking them myself a few times. the only reason i didn't was that i refused to be beaten by the spammers.

you won't miss them.

I don't want to know what they are, but as a good little savant I include a link whenever someone asks that I so do. And, off topic but it stares me in the face, so let me at long last compliment you, Mox, on your readable comment-code-verifyer-thingamajig. Numbers that can actually seen and entered on the first try. Amazing, these days, I say.

At last! I've been reading blogs since before 9/11 and see now that my insticts have kept keep me coming back to a True Original.

I almost have a vicarious feeling of being one of the cool kids, but would never presume to let that reflect on you. I'll just smile quietly to myself.

Thanks.

I killed 'em on my site. I had two legitimate ones and 2,000 for tex-as-pok-er-eat-my-viagrIa!@@#$!R.

Well worth it. If someone wants to insert a link to their site, they have to do it the old-fashioned way: by inserting HTML code in a comment. Just like I did back in the BBS days, uphill, both ways!

It's been so long since I got comment spam that it's been jarring when I've come across another blog that still gets it.

ExpressionEngine's weakness used to be trackback spam, but between improvements to the scheme and a new extension that closes trackback acceptance on old posts, I'm almost as clean of it now as I have been of comment spam.

I still do occasionally have to clean out my referral logs of referrer spam, but since those logs aren't made public it's kind of pointless that anyone bothers.

That is a nice pic. It reminds me of an Escher painting.

I don't have to get rid of trackbacks; after blogging since December '01, I've never had them.

Posted by: Gary Farber at May 29, 2006 8:55 PM

I love yor post, I have no idea what a trackback is but I promise never to do it again.(if I do you have permission to strictly chastise me.

Posted by: bill at May 30, 2006 12:06 AM

Hah. I never even had talkbacks. Ever.

You still have much to learn, grasshopper.

Posted by: Mr. Lion at May 30, 2006 8:28 AM

But, but Moxie I need to track you back.
How else can I keep my good reputation as a stalker?

Posted by: Joatmoaf at May 30, 2006 9:45 PM

Who loves ya Mox!

I have never even knew what that was.. The unknown scares me, so I am glad they are going away.

Hey, I tried to link to this post but can't find the trackback. What's up with that?

Posted by: The Wine Commonsewer at June 6, 2006 5:44 AM

I'm about to get _back_ on the _track_....

with my new old MIATA! One of the first off the boat from Jap-land (I can call it that and not be racist... since I lived there..... OK??) in 1989.

{crickets chirping}

Me: Well fuck you guys. It is NOT a gay man's car. Everyone I know who has one knows more about cars and racing than any average Porsche owner. It's going to be faster than a typical Porsche when I'm done with it. I'm already lubing new parts and beginning to force induction.... ahhhh f you..... :)

Posted by: Knievel at June 7, 2006 12:18 AM

Lubing new Parts? Force Induction? Not Gay? Riiiiiiiiight.
