Moxvox -- with special guest Dale Launer
Just a quick note -- this Thursday my very special guest will be Dale Launer, screenwriter and producer of widely acclaimed films -- surely you have seen or heard of My Cousin Vinny, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Ruthless People?!
We're not settled on the topics yet. But we will certainly talk about writing, current events, his new film Tom's Nu Heaven and maybe even some politics!
Mark your calendars for Thursday 5 PM Pacific, 8 PM Eastern and tune in here.

i have kind of a stupid question that's most likely not worthy of a call in to your show - what does a producer do?. . . like i get the impression that producers do the crap/shit/grunt work that the directors don't wanna have to deal with, but that doesn't seem like an accurate description 'cuz, like, who would wanna do that?. . .

great article!. . . so did the movie make a profit he was able to share with everyone?. . . or has the movie even come out yet?. . . i can't tell 'cuz it looks like the magazine article was from 2003, imdb gave the movie a year of 2005, and the website has a copyright date of 2006. . .
btw, that tip on mirroring the driver so that he looks like a passenger was really freakin' cool.. . while i'm not sure if i'll be able to listen to your moxcast live, i'll definitely listen to the recording. . .
oh, and, uh, this is another one of those stupid questions, especially since he's very likely not using such inexpensive equipment, but if it possibly fits into your talk, could you ask him if he has an opinion on the canon hv20 camcorder?. . . and just so you don't think i'm *totally* lame, i'm wondering 'cuz it's a 24p, 1080 HDV camera and only costs about $1,000. . .

that was a good one, great guest!. . . i actually made a concerted effort to listen live so that i could call in, but i was waiting to see if you were actually gonna take callers before dialing (i pay per minute with my cell). . . couple of observations:
1. if i remember correctly, joss whedon does direct as well as write, but he doesn't direct every episode of his tv shows like buffy and angel and firefly. . .
2. from what i understand about the music industry, most performers signed to a big label don't make money from their cd sales, but rather from concerts and the schwag they sell there. . . it apparently has little to do with piracy, but how the record labels work - they schmooze the talent, sign 'em, give 'em advances on an upcoming album sale, produce said album, but when it comes time to sell it, they tell the band "sign over all rights to your music or we won't promote it". . . most bands go that route and then get no money on cd sales. . . one of the reasons metallica was so against napster back in the day is that metallica was one of the few bands who were smart enough to not sign away all their rights like that and actually *did* make money off of cd sales. . .
3. regarding how to distribute video via the internet, in my case i watch the daily show and the colbert report via the comedy central website (i don't have cable) and i can't really complain about the way they do it. . . they show basically the entire episode, splitting it at the end of a segment, and every two segments they show a commercial that you can't fast forward thru. . . or wait, there's one thing i don't like about it - they keep showing the same damn commercials over and over. . . it's like i'm a teenager listening to top-40 radio all over again. . .
