missing BTR entry and show

Apologies to those who planned to listen to tonight's show via the archive, but I had to delete it as my sound problems made me sound like Cindy Brady after 40 shots of jagermeister.

I'm going to buy a new headset tomorrow. Steve is using a plantronics, so I may buy one of those. Any other suggestions welcome.

And thanks so much to Lair, Steve, Damian, Mike and Lewis.

I'll try to schedule a short test show on Sunday to test out the new headset.

although i've never imagined what cindy brady would sound like after 40 shots, i didn't think you sounded bad, you just sounded like you were talking over a phone. . .

of course i didn't listen to the whole thing, just a few minutes before i had to jet off to work. . . quick thing i thought i'd comment on about how you were surprised you weren't getting more shit for switching from windows to a mac. . .

the impression i get is that a large percentage of windows users tend to look at their machines as tools, a generic sort of thing that they're comfortable with, but not all that passionate about. . . kinda like a tv set - people may kind of prefer a certain brand, but given the right deal they wouldn't think too much about switching. . .

mac users (of which i'm one, although i use windows at work), on the other hand tend to be a bit more fanatical about their little cult, and if you'd switched the other way, *then* you might've gotten a metric assload of shit. . .

but that's just a theory. . . the lack of gnashing of teeth could just be that your readers are level-headed and know that the OS doesn't matter so long as it does the job you need it to. . .

I've done well with my Logitech 350.

Allan, a regular commenter at my blog, posted this in response to my mentioning that you switched over to a Mac. Here's the relevant part of the comment for your enjoyment:

Anybody who disses a Mac only because they come with granola and a free pair of Birkenstocks is equivalent to a Marin maven who refuses to purchase a 99 mpg vehicle named the Bushmobile. These things are machines. They only vote in cartoons.

Which leads to a question how MSFT software ever got to be a red state fave. Bloated, no defense against outside attacks, confusing codes, system conflicts, premature chest thumping on the latest greatest offering...you see where I'm going with this, don't you? Sounds like the DNC to me. And just how conservative do you think Gates is? So tell me again why blue states hate Gates. Self-hate, you say? Could be.

And the Mac ought to be a red state winner. Simple and clean, keeps humming through the seasons, loyal to the team, needs almost no attention, self-sufficient needing no outside third party vendors to help keep away the intruders and attackers, and priced higher to let you show off how you much money you have and how you don't mind paying a little more to get more.

Aaron,
I think we have the same headset. Maybe I need to adjust some settings on the new 'puter.

I sounded fine, if a bit too quiet on Steve's show but much clearer and then on my own -- it all goes to shit.

Bloopy,
Lots of PC users were giving me crap on Sunday when I bought the thing. Just expected more people would call me a traitor on the show. Guess they got it out of their system!

Mike,
I agree and as I said on the show, the thing that kills me is that for once, the left got something right ;)

Plantronics have pretty reliable products. For two years I supervised a fundraising call center for a university, and aside from the hijinks and sabotage from the students we had very little problems. They have cordless models as well but we mostly used the regular headsets w/ amplifiers. Whichever way you go, I strongly suggest getting an AC power adapter rather than using batteries. Batteries suck, and I'm not just talking power.

Also, if you have or are thinking about VoIP, they have products for that too so you might be able to get a two-for-one buy.
