Mox leaves the compound

Last night, I ventured out with a friend. Yes, shocking and scary for both of us.

After a few drinks, we were playing the "mac or PC" game and that was fun as all the mac zealots were more than happy to act superior. Then, I was ranting about how Bill Clinton would be the Chief Masturbator of the White house Intern program and some dude stopped to chat.

And he didn't stop to beat my face to a Clintorious pulp.

Turns out he's one of these closet Republicans. In Los Angeles, no less. And yet another who doesn't like McCain but will be "forced" to vote for him.

Now, we haven't had our primary here in California, but who else will be left by Feb 5th?

How depressing, choosing between the Headmaster of Magical Underpants Studies or a liberal parading around as a conservative patriot. It's sort of like deciding, "would I rather have diarrhea while on national television every day for the next 8 years, or parade around fat and naked for the rest of my life"

In other news, no I did not get his name nor his phone number. And I have news to break -- shocking and tragic news -- on MoxVox on Sunday.

You have to be there.

5 PM Pacific, 8PM Eastern. You can only find the Moxie on NowLive.com.

I'm a Republican and I like John McCain. I'm not a very political person, but I keep up with the big issues on a surface level and I *think* I understand why some conservatives don't like him (tax cut voting, McCain-Feingold, amnesty, waterboarding). In my opinion, with the shitty list of candidates we had to choose from (including Hunter and Thompson) he is still the best choice.

I actually find it somewhat refreshing to have a candidate who thinks for himself, even if he chooses to get a little out of step with popular Republican opinion at times (which is a big no-no in our party).

As I said I don't claim to be politically savvy and so maybe I have no place to even be making a comment on this blog...but I've been a visitor here for years and have always enjoyed it.

As a RINO myself, I am not that unhappy to vote for McCain. It was a tie between him and Romney.

My main beef with McCain is the amnesty issue. All the other stuff is either minor, insignificant, or not really all that bad. McCain-Feingold was shitty not because of the thought behind it, but the way it was written. There did need to be reform. Campaign financing over the years was not free speech, it was legalized bribery. Unfortunately, McCain Feingold was just simply put a bad bill.

Why is it nobody talks about the Keating scandal of the eighties. McCain was involved in that. Here he is, running for President during a time of one of the worse credit crunches in our history, and here he is, the Republican front runner, a man who was personally and deeply involved in one of the worse financial disasters in US history.

Yet, nobody brings this up. Everybody gives him a pass. In the Florida debate, Romney never even brought it up, despite the evident lies and misrepresentations McCain used against him. Why? Anytime McCain insists he would be good on the economy, he should be clubbed over the head with this. People act like they are afraid of the guy.

But like I said, it's the amnesty issue, more than any single thing or combination of things, that has me dead set against him.

I will be there Mox...........Nino

To be honest, I don't agree with McCain on the amnesty issue either. However, a lot of people forget that Ronald Reagan himself signed a bill back in the mid 80's that granted amnesty to a few million illegal immigrants. Problem was that afterwards they didn't do anything to prevent more illegals from getting into the country.

While personally I still don't agree with amnesty and believe they should send those assholes back to where they came from, but maybe McCain can actually do something about securing our borders so that more illegals won't get in.

Or maybe he'll just say that so people will vote for him and then come up with an excuse to do the exact opposite if he wins. If you object then, he'll be happy to let you know what a racist you are as a way to shame you in line, only this time it will be from the "bully pulpit"-which might well be a very apt description of a McCain presidency.

He'll also drag up that old canard about Hispanic voters the GOP needs to appeal to, as a means of browbeating his fellow GOP members of Congress.

He'll insist of course it will work out for the best despite the obvious inherent flaws, just like he did with McCain-Feingold.

What was it he said about that? Oh yeah, it was something like, "if there's a problem we'll just go back and fix it later."

I can just see him repeating that line once he gets a new Shamnesty Bill passed.

Oh, but we just can't deport the twelve million illegals here now, that would just be impossible.

Steve says McCain is a douchebag.

What does that word mean?

Posted by: mr toad at February 2, 2008 7:05 PM

Mr. Toad-If McCain gets the nomination and runs against Hillary, you'll get the answer to your question by how far he seems to crawl up inside her ass.

Last time around with McCain we heard he was a POW, and came back with some intense anger management issues that drove him to infidelity, divorce, trophy wife who happened to have a father who ran a mega-million corporation. This time around he is still a former POW, but the anger issues went away by magic? He loves family (they have never lived with him, btw), and wants illegal aliens suddenly legal, no anti-incumbent speech, big government, more taxes, get rid of that pesky right to redress government gone amuck... what's to like? All the ones that like him so much, leave your name and address so you can pay my levy of taxes if he is elected.

Yes, let's bitch and moan about all the problems with McCain and completely ignore the fact that Romney, Huckabee, and Giuliani are/were even worse.

The New England Patriots suck.

Posted by: Mike LaRoche at February 4, 2008 12:46 PM

McCain just got attention this time. Jon, should we include some comments on the others who are less desirable, or perhaps more, in a thread Moxie devoted to/about McCain?

For the first time ever, I am thinking about staying home that day.

I don't think there is a person alive on this earth, who has not already heard that John McCain was a POW during Viet Nam! He even used it has a campaign ad here in SC and I'm sure everywhere else. AND no one seems able to criticize his policies without first mentioning his sacrifice to this country. The man is mean spirited and don't even get me started about how he "sometimes" doesn't agree with the Republican party. Our Senator Lindsay Graham follows him around like a puppy dog or has some kind of man-crush on him..so McCain's record is something we are all very much aware of here in SC. THE MAN IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE!!!! He co-wrote the bill to whittle away our rights to free speech. He wanted to give millions of illegals in this country a pass and all their other relatives back home. He voted against the tax cuts. He doesn't like Supreme Court Judges who wear their conservatism on their sleeves! He loves Ted Kennedy! He gets along so well with Hillary, according to Bill. The New York Times loves him. My goodness, does a big fat iron RINO need to fall on your heads. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT...EVER!!! I will write in the person I believe should be the POTUS.
