this that and another thing
I just wrote an entry and as usual, deleted it. Because I hate everything I write.
Here was the gist:
Unlike everyone else in LA, I never feel the need to upgrade my life.
My two cars are respectively 16 and 21 years old. I've had the same cat for 13 years, the same boobs, nose and hair for 30+ years. That couch in my livingroom is about 8 years old. And some Target furniture, tho painted and redesigned would carbon-date back to 1995. Some of my most stylish clothing was vintage, bought cheaply when i lived in San Francisco or expensive crap I've been lugging around for 15 years and still looks new.
In the last few years, I've said I would drive my 16 year old Toyota into the ground.
It only has 70k miles on it and while the engine is still perky, it's the "everything else" that is falling apart. Having functioning A/C and defrost became to me, something only those Hollywood types had in their fancy BMW's. There's more but I'll spare you the painful and treacherous details.
Sure, I have my own fancy car. But due to "chosen" women in minvans who have cost me about ten thousand dollars worth of repairs on the Porsche (because Yahwey said they were SO special, they didn't have to leave a note on the German car, lest their eldest son lose even a second of studying the Talmud) actually using my car, or parking my car on my street for even an hour has proven to be a foolish investment.
I wish to buy something that I don't HAVE to care about. Something I can park on the street for more than an hour and not go broke fixing other people's boo boos.
A good reliable, useful car that these beasts can ding, knock off those unruly side view mirrors, and roll over the hoods in their 1970's minivans filled with 40 bratty kids. Goal is, they can do all this and I won't have to shed a tear because it's not a classic, not a collector's item nor is simply so old that the cost of replacing a bumper exceeds the worth of the entire vehicle.
Done a bunch of research. And while I considered buying a Prius, only to plaster it with Republican propaganda to confuse dizzy local libzillas -- the leader as of now is a Kia Sportage.
It's reasonably safe, reasonably priced...and according to specifications isn't any longer than a Honda Civic, so it should be easy to fit into tight city parking spots.
Here's your chance to talk back. I'd get the 4x2, with the 2.0 l. 4 banger engine. It's got nice big/wide tires on it, and here in LA I don't need much more than that. Cars that drive on doughnuts are dangerous to society as a whole.
Don't get me wrong -- doughnuts are delicious, but should not be driven on. Unless they are are VERY stale and it's not raining.
Why a Kia for the new MoxMobile?
Well, I don't really know.
But i do know I'd like a car that kinda works. And can drive in the rain. And doesn't need freon, or power steering fluid or oil every other day. A working defroster would be fantastic. It'd be nice if the ignition key worked without lube and a prayer. It'd be great if the factory paint wasn't peeling off. Oh and how about being able to open the DRIVER's side door from the outside? That's a novelty, I have to do the climb over from the passenger's side...and get the car started in 45 seconds before the alarm goes off. See above in regards to the ignition and the ignition key having a divorce.
Okay, back to Kia. I tend to hang on to important transportation related items for 8-20 years. Kia has a very attractive warranty -- 10 years/100k miles. And while I don't fancy that funky back window, I think stylewise the vehicle will age fairly well -- unlike the "new" VW bug, the PT cruiser, that redesigned Thunderbird or the already aging Cooper Ninnie.
Also, I've already got a sports car. My dream car. Practicality is key, I don't need to impress anyone. And I don't want to spend a dime more than a typical LA woman does on a boob job, laser hair removal and rhinoplasty.
Post your Kia horror stories please...you so rarely see these cars here in Lost Angeles, I can already imagine the novelty, shock and horror it might inspire.
Hopefully not my own shock and horror.
Your turn....
(and yes, I know I have been horrible about responding to emails, paypal thank you's, hate mail, etc. I'm working on it!)

meet our unfortunate press
real time typing...
I'm watching Meet the Press right now...and Maureen Dowd seems to think Americans should have been alerted 2 seconds AFTER Cheney shot his gun and missed.
I want to know if she also thinks Clinton should have alerted the public moments after he shot his own "gun" into the mouth of a young intern and missed.
We have the blue dress as evidence of his mis-guided shot, yes?
The media's definition of "private life" seems to differ based on ones political party. No surprises there.
More later.

olympic sized yawn
Tonight I was transfixed -- two guys in tights skating around in a circle. I WANTED to change the channel but I couldn't.
It was like hyponosis. My Mum called and I explained to her that I couldn't stop watching the speed skating even though it was horribly boring and I thought it was some weird Rovian mind control plot. Sure enough that Texan in tights won the gold.
Pretty much the only Olympic events I watch (voluntarily) are women's figure skating.
Probably because of my 22+ years as a ballet dancer. Sometimes a student, sometimes in a professional company. In my high school and college years I started to skate occasionally.
Loved how much more fun it was than dancing in pointe shoes and having gay guys lift you up and "help" you pirouette. I was known for doing 6-7 pirouettes unassisted in pointe shoes at the end of a combination. I can still do as many in my socks on the hardwood floors if it's a good day.
I loved skating and had an affinity for it because it's ballet on ice. Was amazed at how easy it was to do jumps and spins. Don't get me wrong, I sucked. But I sucked less than people without my background and training in ballet.
Figure skating is the meeting of great things; graceful ballet AND athletic/gymnastic ability. At least when it's done right.
Michelle Kwan never did it right.
That's right, I said it.
I've read everything you all have read about her, watched her, heard all the praise -- but she was like a little stocky robot. Never had the grace, the body, the lines, the lyrical quality in her more dance-like steps.
When they gave her a free pass to be on the team this year, it was hard to understand. And tonight, she's officially dropping out due to old age/injuries. Good choice. Good riddance.
Having also become "too old to dance" at age 23-24, my comment has less to do with her 25 years and more to do with what she never had in the first place.
It's as if the media picks someone and she can do no wrong.
We know THAT never happens with our wonderful American media, right?
Kwan could skid across the ice on her chiffon covered ass and the commentators are oohing and ahhing, "she stumbled but look! She recovered in a manner we've never seen before from that triple-quadruple face-plant toe loop. No judge will deduct for THAT."
I actually dreaded watching her stiff limbs, calculated and mechanical turns (note I won't say spin, because she doesn't), her constipated jumps. All things said, I don't give a flying f*** how many gold, silver or bronze medals our country wins. I just want to watch beautiful skating.
Sasha Cohen is one of the more elegant I've watched in my lifetime. I adored Sarah Hughes. And look forward to watching Emily Hughes replace that lump of flesh and muscle also known as Kwan.
Adios Michelle. From someone who never bought the hype.

i talk, you listen
If you've got nothing better to do, you can listen to me yammer on and on for about 20 minutes. It was late at night, I'm sure I can do better -- but here it is anyway

Can anyone help?
We get email, and while it typically goes unread, here is something I did read and find worthwhile:
I'm looking for an Woman, intelligent to have relationship.
I love women. Women that don't be afraid to seat alone in car with me. She love to wear a dress with the same grace as of an cocktail dress (SEXY). What is there better than beautiful woman who like to dress naturalness and who come with me to dinner in Finest Restaurant with happy pleasure expression on her face.
I'm waiting for a call (or mail) from you
I don't fit the bill. Toxic failure on my part: I would be afraid to seat alone in car with him. Anyone out there interested?
Don't doubt me, I am going to respond. And report back to you. So suggestions are welcome.
